This is about an hour or more south of Calgary. Took a few shots of it but not super happy with how they came out. Thoughts, suggestions??

Here are my thoughts. I think if you'd followed your own name (rule of thirds) you might have found it a bit more pleasing. Also, I'd have closed down and increased the DOF to try and keep as many hats in focus as possible.
The last thing is that you need to lose the silo. Not sure if a different angle would have worked or if you might consider photoshopping it out but it drags the eye away from the fence line which is the point of interest.
I somewhat agree with the previous message, I think a different angle would have been good here. But, I really like this. Nice job!
Neat idea; I'm thinking a slightly lower shooting position, further to your right so that you were shooting more "down the line" of the fence might have worked better.
A little more DOF on the hats would have improved the image.
Overall ..It's a nice shot:)
I agree with the DOF comment, and I think a crop that goes between the first to hats, cuts the sky and mountains, would be another way to increase our eyes on the subject. For me, I find cropping much easier than cloning. Neat idea! Tough light to shoot in and you handled it pretty well.
I don't mind the composition one bit. The silo does attract a bit of attention but it also gives the shot a sense of place. I might burn it in instead on cloning out. What I do agree on is DOF. I would have stopped all the way down on this one. Hope that help - Marko
Yes, more DOF would help, but I like this. The colors seem slightly washed out (hazy light?), and perhaps there's a bit of inessential space up top. But interesting subject.
Thaks everyon! To be honest i take most things at F8 or better and thought i'd play with some DOF, maybe not the best time. There was enought light to shoot handheld at F11 i have a similar shot with more DOF, i think. Will take a look and repost.
I just happen to have one at F8 and i think you're all right, maybe F16 would have been the right answer... needed a tripod.
