Post Processing

I will be the first one to admit. I can go wild in my post processing. Below is the image in color and the other has an interesting B & W effect. Does it work or should I just keep it a simple black and white conversion?






I really like the second one BUT did I go overboard.

I like it a lot. But, I'm a fan of extreme saturation and other "over the top" methods of rendering. Maybe it'll pass one day, but it seems to have gotten me out of a rut or relieved the boredom of the usual. I'm happy with it for the time being.

Actually very simple.. Lukas Arts filter and then I converted it to B&W. Most people do not convert to B&W.

I like them both! To me, the second is the more interesting because it really brings out some of the gritty details of the enviroment.

if a complete and total amateur opinion is of use, I prefer the first one. the B&W looks a little over done to me and almost like a drawing. I love the color contrasts of the man and the environment. I think it makes him 'pop' out as a powerful force in the room.


that said, both are wonderful.

The BW image seems stronger since it emphasizes the detail and texture of the subject and image giving more of an impact while simplifying the image-which always helps compositions without a distinct use of color. While there is little to suggest a story here, I would consider this a great portraiture piece and from this the subject himself seems interesting enough to carry it past this too thought the pose is a bit too conventional for me. The window’s stick that holds it open seems too distracting too. The color version does not contribute much more than a confusing color palette being neither warm/cool or having a viable color scheme. You did do a great job at capturing good shadow detail without killing the highlight detail much-though comparing the original to the post processing would be nice. And a short lighting set up would be nice however I would like to guess here:

The nice edge lighting might be from the white wall or street lamp but I believe it is a one light setup and you made use of some dodging and burning on the arm but mostly on the face since this is less believable.
