NO! Its My tripod..........!

Havent done alot of portrait work, So I would appreciate some critique for this image....

Its my Two and a half year old daughter Gypsy-Faith, She wont give up the tripod............!

Not a very technical shot as I used manual mode the thing that stands out to me is the eyes they seem a bit dark? and could do with being a bit sharper?

Her face is a bit soft (out of focus) and you already picked the dark eyes which I expect is caused by her downward look with the light behind her. I suspect that you didn't have a lot of room to work with, however, I would have loved to see her gripping the tripod rather than just having it stuck in the photo next to her. That would tell more of the story. Without your comment I might wonder why it was there.

I'm sure it's a great moment that you will remember having captured this image and there's lots of potential in that cute little face. Your exposure looks to be pretty good. Did you bump up the saturation a bit? The orange on her dress looks a little too orange?

I HDR'd this image using DYNAMIC PHOTO HDR. That is the only adjustment that has been made.

I get what you are saying about seeing her gripping the tripod, That would have been better.

Struggled a bit with the focusing, as you said I didnt have alot of room and also in manual mode you cannot select the focus points.

You've already figured out the problem, here's how to fix it.

The focus is off. Always focus on the eyes and know that sometimes autofocus is bad for this. The sharpest thing in this image is the tripod. Next time, make sure it's the eyes or eye closest to the camera.

The eyes are indeed dark because the lightsource is behind the girl. This can be remedied with some fillflash OR with a reflector or fill card that will bounce light back into the face.

The the orange/reds are way too saturated on my monitor.

I did use Auto focus, I cant seem to get out of the habbit of using it !!

Like you say I need to focus on the eyes..
The lighting problem in future is relatively easy to sort out.

the over saturation is due to hdr, if this image was correctly focused and lit i suppose there would be no need to use this effect ?

Note to self: REMEMBER,FOCUS ON EYES!, MANUAL FOCUS! lol

You can easily use the autofocus with canon if you put it to centre point focus and then use the rear-button autofocus to focus the lens before you shoot. I normally find autofocus is far faster for me than manual.

Despite all the previous mentioned things to work on, Cute capture, shooting kids is hard work.

Sorry, I have stated that I used manual mode....I was meant to have said Auto..DOh!!
That being the camera setting, The lens was also in auto mode

Aside from the focus issue, fill flash would have made a big improvement. Nice capture!.
