Great subject, would also like to see the opposite, busy time at the food trucks.
I do have a problem with the images, they are soft (out of focus), especially the first one. The girl in the first one is very soft. Looks like the focal point is on the "Crooks Castle" logo on his shirt. Are you uploading these as large files, because the site will resize them to fit and makes them soft?
My favorite image here is the second one on the second post. That's a great shot.
Yeah, the soft focus. These photos are shoot from hip. The 55-200 Nikon DX isn't the greatest either, especially when it comes speedy focus. And there is lighting - shaded. I think I flipped to sports mode on the camera for one that 'theantiquetiger' likes the best. The ISO on that one is 5000.
I went through the manual for my D5300 and tweaked the performance for outdoor photography using the 55-200 DX zoom
Your shutter speed was 1/750. Fast enough for people not moving so long as you are bracing and holding the camera properly
I can't see how sportsmode could solve this issue.
Move only 1 focus square over the eye - that's the ticket imo.
What tweaks are those?Quote:

Centre focus to Matrix focusing. Minimum shutter speed 1/500. Aperture priority at f8. High movement AF (quicker response). 11 focus points to 39. I still need set the AE/AF-L button to focus lock as I have half press of the shutter set to AE lock.
