so here's my story (warning-it's kind of long):
My husband and I are selling our house. The kids are leaving and it's time to move on to the next phase of our lives. The plan was to buy a house in the country so I could have my horse there. My dream is to own enough property that the neighbours are a distant view, not within 20 feet as they are here in a subdivision. I am not meant to live in a subdivision.
Our Real Estate agent found us a piece of property that was perfect: 12 acres with 7 cleared pasture, a few neighbours but not visible as the lot is surrounded by trees. And it's an easy commute to town or the highway. There is even a beaver pond for cripes sake! And it's affordable. So we look at it 6 ways to sunday, start planning a house and a barn. Tonight the agent was coming over so we could make an offer on it.
My husband is on his way home from golfing and I call him to pick up flour (I'm making banana bread). He says 'listen, I can't talk now but I have info and I don't want to put an offer on the land'. We hang up and I figure he's got cold feet. After all we haven't actually sold our house yet.
So he and the agent arrive at the same time and we sit down. Here's the news he has for me: he was talking to his really good friend and describing where the lot was. His friend says 'don't buy it'. He then tells Ed why and then tells Ed that another person that Ed knows lives right there. So Ed calls him. So here's why: there's a neighbour who is the street bully. Suspicion is that he sells drugs as he's on disability but has a new house and a new vehicle every year. But that's neither here nor there. The issue is that he hunts wherever the hell he wants. He's shot in the backyard when children are out playing. He's shot various neighbourhood dogs and animals because he's pissed off at them. This neighbour that Ed talked to won't leave his horses outside if he's not home because of fear that they will be shot.
so that's it. I have no interest in buying a nightmare. If someone killed my dogs or horse I would have to kill him and really I don't need that aggravation. The agent was shocked. But the truth is that the police cannot really do anything. The neighbour Ed talked to has sworn out a Peace Bond and it hasn't made any difference.
So this is why I feel lucky and depressed all at the same time.
:sorry: for the long whine but I had to vent.
This sucks. truly sucks.
