I am working on composition and attempting to learn hyperfocal

Well ... that sure is a lot of negative space! But, there's certainly nothing wrong with that. I don't see any reason to critique the composition here as I think it would be a subjective opinion at best anyhow.
Not sure the duo-tone feel works for me personally. Having a greenish cast across the whole picture simply doesn't appeal to me I'm afraid.
Seeing that the tree is the main subject I could be picky and say that the tree itself a bit bland. A more interesting tree might have lifted this a bit. However, bland is possibly what you were going for in this minimalist style shot, so if so, well done.
The tree could be sharper. It looks a bit soft to me and if you are practicing hyperfocal distances then I would expect you wanted plenty of the grass to also be in focus as well I assume.
Apart from that though it's a shot I can see in a magazine with lots of headline up there in the sky.
