Hello there,
Today I wanted to turn a cloudy ugly day into a creative one.
I tried for the first time to frame buildings, architecture photography.
Please feel free to critique, I want to improve framing and post processing (actually everything, lol).
Thank you !

Hey, Lovin. Not sure I can give you much of a critique as I'm not very strong in the architecture world.
That being said, I like the straightforward composition of these shots but I find them very soft.
Hope that helps.
My personal tastes say the first one is a better image. I like the inclusion of the sign and the people. I may have cropped a bit on the right, to get the apt complex out.
The post processing isn't my style. I too find it a bit soft, or flat. But that doesn't mean it isn't right :)
I think you picked a great building..she has a lot of character to her. And my favorite time to shoot..is those moody cloudy days! It's nice to see you again..been a while!

Is it just me or does the angle of the apt on the right hand side seem to 'bend' the outside of the image? This happens more so in the cropped version. In other words, its an optical illusion where the image width appears larger at the top then at the bottom.
My newb comments are
1. Composition is great with a good balance on left and right. You've got depth in the image with something interesting to look at in the near, mid and far ranges. On the whole I really like it.
2. Like the others, I find colours a bit flat for my taste, and that the original image is more interesting.
3. Maybe due to the post processing, but the image lacks a certain sharpness ( which is maybe what you were going for). Maybe up the contrast and sharpness/clarity?

I tend to agree with the points people above have mentioned but I might also reiterate what Kat said.
For me, the framing (using the tree and other building) would have to be more obvious to be effective. I would have stepped or zoomed back to include more of those.
In the 2nd pic the first thing I thought of was 'awwww, no sign!' I think zooming in and including the street sign against the building would have added something here.

Thank you all ! :)
Ok, about post processing, I wanted to give an old look, or to give the feeling of 80's, because I thought that wouldn't be very interesting if that type of building is just sharp and with natural colors.
Ok, I'll go back there and I'll try different framing.
About the angle of the other buildings, there is some distortion on 14mm(I'm using the ZD 14-54mm f2.8-3.5).
Thank you again ! :)

Ok, I went back there and tried one more time to get this building in a photo.
This time I did a different post-process.

You didn't bring your tripod. Images like this need to be tack sharp.

You got me :)
I had no tripod with me.
Good point.
I think it may have something to do with the "attached image". They always seem to come out that way.
I much prefer this. I didn't like the side building..but I do think MA had something with the tree being in it as well.
Post is preferable for me too in this newest photo.
How are you enjoying the new camera?

Thank you for asking Kat :) I'm sooooo impressed by this camera. I just can't wait to have a sturdy tripod and couple of lenses more.
How do you like yours?
