Help needed for posing the more mature portraits?

Hi guys.
I have been asked by my in-laws to do a portrait of them both.
First of all i thought cool thats easy enough to do, then after further thought maybe its not as easy as i first reckoned.

The problem is how would i pose them?
they are both in their mid/late 60's, so the normal white background i feel would be to young if thats they right expression to use, and a dark low key shot would be to atmospheric as they are both VERY young at heart.

If any member could possibly give me any ideas for the set i would be more than grateful.

Studio is much harder than natural light. Does the shot have to be studio?
If it does not, bring them outdoors, it will be far easier and you'll likely get much better shots.

Is the shot of them together or separately?

I have to agree. Some of the best "mature" photos I have seen are outdoor, by window light shots.

I'm not to sure how to pose them..that I'm just leaning myself! Look forward to your results.

No it doesn't have to be in a studio, so sounds like the plan then to shoot there portraits outside :)

It will be MUCH easier outdoors. Shoot in the shade for additional ease and bring a reflector or use minus fill flash to add light to their faces.
