That's funny MA because I was expecting the parked train in the distance to be the one arriving in the station but instead it came from behind me and actually brushed my coat. I had my headphones on so I never heard it...Too close:D

Yeh ... the yellow line IS there for a reason. I don't reccommend the wearing of headphones around large metals objects that can kill you.

BUT ... it's not like a lot of people think. They jump to conclusions so easily when they see a cyclist.

I really do use my ipod while riding sometimes (not often though) but I play the music so quiet that I can only hear it while climbing. When descending or even on flats at over about 25 kph (which is 90% of the time) I can't hear it for the wind noise.
The ear phones actually help reduce the wind noise allowing me to hear the traffic better. The opposite to what most ignorant motorists think. But then what can you expect from people making conclusions and judgments on things they've never tried?

I wear Koss Sportapro headphones because they deliver great sound while allowing a good deal of ambient noise in. I wear then downtown because it cuts down on the bums asking for spare change, smokes or plane tickets to Mexico :D. In the photo I posted, that station is the end of the line and rarely do trains come in from behind. They usually come from where that train is parked in the image. When that one entered the station from behind I was coasting at a fairly low speed and they're pretty much silent against the ambient noise. If it had clipped my elbow it would have hurt like hell but not likely have killed me.

Thanks...Yep Vancouver Waterfront station. I've seen kids standing real close to the edge seeing how close they can come without being clipped.

Exactly the same as the Flying Doctor!!! Except ... no planes. And it's about diagnostic medicine. And it's American. And in a big city. In a hospital actually rather than the Australian outback. And instead of being friendly ... House is a sarcastic, abrasive ass.
