holy crap - im so excited! i just got my bday present (today - 27) and its a nikon D80 & the 18-200mm VR lens! woot! :D cant wait to get out & take some pics! stay tuned... lol!

yay! thanks! im hoping to get at least 50 years or so outta it - to off set the cost! :p im going to have to spend some serious quality time with it and the handbook and the dvd to try and figure out how to use it. i feel like ive never taken a picture before - it all seems so new! i dont even know how to get the display monitor on! haha! :rolleyes: maybe after the 1st decade...

I remember feeling sorry for you when someone was looking at one of your landscape shots and telling you to use f11.... haha... not any longer!!!

That is some present and an excellent choice. A polarizing or enhancement filter would be my next purchase recommendation.

thanks tegan - i do have a polarizing filter for it too, and one thats just plain glass, to have on all the time to protect the lens. now, i just need a tri-pod... doubt i can wait till christmas! :)

Consider a monopod where a bottom attachment springs out like an umbrella facing downward. They are faster to use and look like a walking stick if you are hiking.

Sports pros use monopods as more than any "intermediate step". They take up less space than a tripod and they can be moved quickly and easily. That is the name of the game.
