I'm just starting out in photography, I found Scott Kelby's The digital photography books (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Photography-Book-Step-step/dp/032147404X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262381327&sr=8-1) very helpful.
