Sorry if this is a repeat, I keep posting but it isn't showing up.

OK I want to know about editions for professional art photographers. What is the norm for most people? Any info is appreciated.

I'm not to sure what you mean by editions. Then again I'm not a pro.

Do you mean like you only sell so many prints?

There is no norm as far as i know..especially these days. It will depend on how you want to sell either by yourself or through a gallery.

Editions of 10, 25 are fairly common.

yes Kat, it is the choice of the photographer how many prints of that image they want to sell. I wanted to get a sense for those of you who do sell your work what a typical edition might be. I usually do 10-25 but for a smaller piece that i don't charge as much more I may do 75.
thx

Some people will also print editions in different sizes.

25 8x10's
and 25 16x20 of the same image for example.

I used to have 10 prints per photo, now I do one print per photo. To me a photograph is like a piece of art, once you mass produce it and you do more than one copy it is not longer a unique piece of art. A painter, a sculpture rarely does more than one of anything, and I think that has become a problem with photography most things are printed more than once and takes away from the value. It is why I think I made a record price for a print, they bought it knowing I assure that it would be the only print from that photograph ever made. It is your call in the end, most use 10 to 100. It is a personal call, I do not recommend people do it my way either, it just is working for me.
