Mt Baker, a 10,271 foot active volcano in the northern Cascades, photographed from Artist Ridge Trail in early October. The weekend after this shot was taken, the road to this trail was closed for the winter due to snow... This is a 3-shot composite, shot at +1/0/-1 stop settings, using a graduated ND filter to tone down the brightness in the sky and snow, then processed in Photomatix. Canon 40D, 17-35 lens at 35mm, 1/160 nominal at f/13...

What an awesome scene that is! I've spent ages just staring into the ridges and pine trees searching the patterns and colours in there.
Looks like you had to process out a bit of lens flare up on the high, left ridge too.
Nice job all round.

thanks! yeah, there was a bit of flare in the original... the sun was coming from about 45 degrees to my left, so the sky and snow were pretty badly overexposed until i processed it.

Sweet! Very lovely scene!

You mean I'll see this mountain in the Vancouver area?
