2007 Pulitzer Prize for Photography

Found this on another forum and as usual thought some here might find it of interest. Very heartwarming and very sad photo series.

That was incredibly sad but thank you for posting it. You seem to post some very provocative links and I totally appreciate it - makes me think!

Now THAT is some great photography. Despite the subject matter, for newbies reading this, notice the exposure, composition, focal point of these images. Note the sharpness of the subjects in the photo. Notice the lack of distracting elements in most shots. All these elements combined make these photographs amazing.

Some may say cynically that it is the subject matter that is creating the powerful effect of these images and that they could do the same. HOGWASH! Of course the subject matter and the story of these images adds to their power. HOWEVER, it is the skill and experience of the photographer that also makes them what they are. If any one of those shots were too blurry or had many distracting elements, these shots would lose their power.

Thanks and I agree with your comments on the photography of the subject. It takes a very talented and dedicated person to be in that situation and still produce the incredible work they do, not only are the pictures taken fabulous but done so under those circumstances really show the professionalism and skill of the photographer. Photography to me says far more than a video does, have always felt that way, rather than a stream of images it is a moment in time captured, still, never moving, no distractions if done right, the subject is all that matters. And this series proves everything I believe, astounding work.

Just thought I would also post the 2008 prize winners photos as well, here it the link and also another very tragic photo journalism story.

And for those interested it is well worth looking through all the other years and seeing those winners also. I have just started but will take a long time before I get to them all but plan on trying over the next several months so I enjoy them and don't rush through them.
