View Full Version : Rock worth keeping?

Trying to decide if this one is worth the effort.
The dirty brown water (full of sediment after the rain) just doesn't look too appealing but I really like my composition on this photo. And the rock is cool with it's moss/algae covering giving such a vibrant green colour.
So ... I decided that seeing as I failed to colour the water to look anything appealing I would try to make it all about the rock.
Here are two results. Which, if any at all, appeal to you??

To be honest, neither. I think a straight mono conversion would be best. It's a nice image, and I like the composition, but the selective colouring in #2... just doesn't work for me and I agree, the brown water isn't the most attractive.

I am with Tirediron, here. Love the B&W, not too keen on the green.

I looked at this as a B&W but didn't think it had merit. Maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe I'm whipping a dead horse.
I love that rock though ... might have to go back and make that more of a feature.

it is a very good photograph.i know and i'm sure if you REALLY tried, you could change the murky water to a blueish/greenish sparkling water. :)

I did actually get it blue ... then green ... then blue/green ... me and the channel mixer and the colour balance were having a right ole orgy but nothing looked right and natural.

of the two my preference is for the full colour version. I do think that a full b&w would work too.
I'm bw as well. IMO, the colored is a bit too much for my eye.
I also think, and boy do I hate these words..but go back. I really honestly think you can and do better photos than this. Like you said..it's the rock that makes it..make it about the rock!

I'm with TI here - I'd like to see a B/W based on what I'm seeing now. In selective color shot - most bkgd trees look great but most of the water needs more contrast.
Hope that helps - Marko

I like the first one, even if it isn't crystal (what we divers call "ether") clear water it is a nice composition and it captures motion.
Realizing I am a newbie; :twocents:

I really want to like this one. I like the foliage and the detail. In my opinion the green rock on the right foreground is too distracting. My eye goes there first..then I follow the water and the green rock takes me back to where I started.
