They are doing it on flickr, seems like a fun idea. We each choose what we feel is our best photo of 2009 and post it here. We could add the stipulation that it be one already posted here during the past year. (or not) Any takers?

sure. but we have to say why we think it's the best we took.

Does; "because it is" count?

I think that's a way cool idea!...who wants to post first!
I have a couple from newf. that I really dig that I have not processed yet...so I'll try and post shortly!
Given that it's our own personal choice...I don't think anyone HAS to say why they think it's the best, that should be optional imo.

:sorry:
sorry marko, I didn't mean that people had to justify their choice. I am just always interested in the reasons behind it. Many of the people here couuld pick any number of photos as their 'best'. However, I agree, if you don't want to you shouldn't feel obligated. :o

Gosh....just one???? That for me is like trying to choose a favorite child over the others...I know...I know a bit dramatic!
Okay I'll go first and I'm picking 2 for different reasons:
I think this is may favorite shot form the past year because of all the others, I am most drawn to it. I like the contrasts b/w the 2 shapes, the way I felt when I saw the image just sitting there on the ice waiting for me to take the shot. It's the shot I keep going back to again and again because I just thought it was so incredible what nature can produce:
Here it is:

The next one is just reminds me of a really great day between my friend and I out on his farm and around the 'hood where he grew up. The fact that his Father passed away recently makes it more special because I got to use my skills to do something really cool for a friend. I gave him this photo and he was blown away to nearly tears when he saw it. His Mum told me a few stories about his dad and the truck when i showed her also! It was also the first time I got to try a new lens out and just the sky and the composition worked out perfectly. It is just a reminder of a really great day spent with a really good friend. :)

Very lovely!
I chose this one because, as I was sitting there shooting something a bit far off I saw this dock..half submerged in the water and had a vision of what I wanted. Perfect time to test the new filter I got. And it came out. More than what I could hope for. This is a slow shutter shot with the water and fog and so forth. I guess..I had a vision and got it!
There were lots this year I took that I like..so hard to choose.

Shhhh Marko ... I think everyone should tell us why they chose it ... personal or not ... it's fascinating to read and understand! ;)
Great idea for this Raiven! Choosing one is going to be so difficult!

That WAS difficult. I searched through all my categories and also ended up in Landscapes.
In there I found a few I had trouble choosing between. It's hard to know if the choice was the scene, the photo and it's composition, the processing or what.
In the end though I chose the one below because I like the composition of the rock as foreground interest and the surf as a leading line drawing us into the photo towards the strong, moody sky and it's message to leave the beach now. It's an HDR and I did quite a bit of processing on it and I'm happy with the result considering it was a drab day yet still got some colour.

yes, that's what I was thinking. I chose this one:

I chose it because it represents what this forum has been able to provide me in terms of knowledge and support. After frequent tries at Orton and composition this seems to be the one the finally coalesced.

This is cool seeing these older photos again. Too often we view them in a moment as we rush through the forums trying to keep up and then never see it again.
Good choice Bambi ... I remember thinking something at the time along the lines of "Here we go ... she's stepped up now!"

Cool stuff, everyone.
This is definitely a seredipitous photo and not one that I had planned but when I saw this busker on the Eau Claire promenade just outside Prince's Island Park I felt this was something special. I took a few shots of her and this version is the one I favoured. I tried to eliminate anything that distracted from the beauty of the photo and the girl, her instrument, the summery foliage and those huge black urns reflecting the city all work together to create a mini fantasy right in our own backyard. ( I believe, anyway). It took me a couple of tries to get the processing right but I think it works.

For "Best of 2009" I'd have to pick the one below. I really like the way it turned out and the reactions of everyone on the forum when they saw it. I was walking through the Public Gardens in Halifax looking for interesting shots. I just happened to look in the right direction and the shot materialized in my head when I saw it. The only distraction, which I obliterated thanks to the clone tool, was the large green garbage bin at the end of the path. It's now a brownish bush which looks much nicer.

It was a total trip down memory lane going back over my old posts though. Everyone should try it at least once.

Oh - I like to see some of these pictures again.
I am choosing this one from mine, because through your comments and advices I am learning to get an eye for such situations:
