Bit of a trip for me. If I had more notice maybe I could have made it ;)

No worries. I'll let you know how great the new 7D is. Truth is, i read some of the specs when it first came out and there was something that really made me think "I'm not at all interested in this camera."... and usually i like the new and shiny stuff.
Better review my notes before i leave.

I find Vistek events a bit lame usually but I am sorry I missed this one, thinking of getting a 7D in my far, far future. If I would have known it was coming out I would have put off buying my 50D which I am very happy with so saved me some money I guess and cameras that do movies annoy me to no bleeding end for some crazy reason.

Quick summery:
The Vistek event blew my best expectations out of the water!
The Canon 7D... yea, fancy. 8fps, 18mp, 12000iso... these don't matter to me that much. Though i admit the shiny stuff is sexy.
Built in Speed Light transmitter... FINALLY!!! Why did this take so long? And why still IR, why not wireless like the RadioPoppers?
A quick and easy toggle switch to go from HD video to stills, nice touch! On the 5D i think it's inside the menu?
The display in the view finder is now fully electronic. I spent $70 to replace the focus screen in my 40D to get the grid (http://www.vistek.ca/store/DSLRAccessories/236103/canon-focusing-screen-efd-precision-matte-w-grid-for-eos-40d.aspx). With the the ability to overlay crap electronically on the focus screen, i see a lot of new stuff being put in here.
The yaw/pitch will be very cool when using the live-view.
Didn't like that the 7D uses different batteries. None of my existing batteries will work with it. Think it's using the 5D/1Ds battery back.
They had the 1Ds Mk4 there... That thing is awesome!
In the end the toys were nice but the networking potential, meeting other local professionals and the Vistek staff made this trip worth every second. I got a lot of names and contracts of people i wouldn't have otherwise meet and have already followed up with. Everyone was super nice, highly recommended!
