I've got a 7D on the way and am wondering what would be a good general purpose lens. It seems that general purpose "walking around" video requires a zoom lens. People often point to something like a 28-200 for this type of thing. I would think the compromises with these mega zoom lenses aren't as much of an issue with video, since it's lower resolution, lots of motion, etc.

Thoughts?

What's your favourite subject matter? That will help us guide you with regard to lens choice.

I'd say a good 28-200 is a decent lens for most enthusiasts that aren't quite sure what to get. The different focal lengths inherent in a lens like this provides for a lot of learning with regard to perspective at different focal lengths.
Hope that helps - Marko
