I'm thinking of going to Vancouver Island this winter, Toffino to be exact and renting a beach side cabin. It's something I've been thinking about for years. There should be some wonderful opportunities for beautiful inclement weather shots in an area that is simply Gods country. My problem is subjecting the D700 to this environment. Stormy weather, beach side, ocean spray, salt, sand...Makes me nervous! Any tips, suggestions on how to minimize camera damage? Anyone done this?...Probably MA:) I'm thinking of some sort of plastic camera bag? I'm not worried so much about sand as it will be too wet to fly but salt and corrosion are big concerns....Advice?

You buy 'Rain Coats for the camera and lenses M.

I have one for mine because of the event shooting ... can't let rain stop me the work!

They tighten up around the lens but leave enough room for your hands to get inside to hold the camera and make adjustments. A bit cumbersome really but it does protect the camera.

Kinda what I was thinking with my "plastic bag" statement. Are "raincoats" generic or brand specific?

So I have to learn the camera buttons in the dark? I'm gonna design a big old plexiglass bubble with a seat and tripod built in...Just "roll" to your next shot :D

When shooting storms ... you don't need to change much in the way of settings if it's night time ... adjusting composition and occassionally focus (manually) is about it once I've got the settings I want.
