New photo for criticism

This photo was taken by my wife on vacation. We both think it is a wonderful shot but would like some opinions of those with a critical eye.

I guess depends how critical you'd like us to be.

This is a very difficult shot to pull off well. I'm certain I wouldn't get it right with a single attempt.

It's easy to see what appealed to you here. The lines and silhouette are striking in their own way.

The stairs at the back are overexposed though which does take away from the impact. Exposing more for that brighter section might have produced a stronger silhouette but I think it would be a bit more pleasing to the eye that way.

It is a good image though ... nice effort.

I have to agree..hard shot.

I see the blown highlights and it does make it hard to see.

My thing (and it's just my preference) I would of loved to have seen the complete gate at the bottom.

I like the vertical and horizontal lines opposing and the light and dark elements contrasting but having more detail behind the gate in the upper left would definitely make the image better. Still quite a striking image. :)

Love the lines. Unfortunately there is too much detail lost in the highlights and even the shadows. I think HDR would have given you what your eyes were seeing at the time.

I agree with the comments and wished that she would have had our D-SLR with her instead of the Panasonic point and shoot. Looking at Mad Aussie's comments and the picture I totally agree that decreasing the exposure would have definitely improved the picture.

I quite like this - nice lines, darker tones and mood. I see the overexposure but in this case it doesn't even bother me. It's that damn plant on the left... That's what my eye keeps wishing was not there. (so long as it was not bolted down...i would have moved it, shot, and put it back.) Hope that helps - Marko
