Awwww Kat ... spectacular!! This really is! Beautiful shot!

Pssst ... remove the chromatic aberation (fringing) from the rock in the foreground ;)

kat

The what? Where...lol. I have no clue what that is..now I'll have to google!

Look down the left edge of the rock at the front under the log. There's a reddish streak/fringe there. This is caused by a bright part of the photo being dead against a very dark part. Lightning shots are prolific for this issue.
It's caused roughly by the way the different light frequencies bend inside your lens. Better lenses tend to be better at avoiding it. But even my best lenses still get it sometimes.
Sometimes it's red ... sometimes blue or various shades really.

That's Chromatic Aberation ... and it's sticking out like dogs balls here :)

Easy ... just mask a general area around the fringing (get in reasonably close to it .... and then use the Saturation tool and select only the reds and drop the saturation back so it at least loses the colour.
Either that or use the clone tool.

It is a very nice shot.

When it comes to removing CA, there's more than one way to "skin a kat". There's also a bit on the end of that same log in the foreground only a different color. Sort of a greenish-blue or maybe cyan. I wonder if it was something that was enhanced in post?

Also cyan CA on the same rock I mentioned ... other side. Kat .. .you gots ya work cut out for ya ;)

SO worth it though on a great shot like that.

Nope..it's being scraped. Went through and it's on an original and it's EVERYWHERE!

I've never really seen that before..but I was shooting 5 mins into darkness...maybe that is the cause?

Nooooo!! Did you use RAW Kat??? This may be able to be saved prior to processing. If not ... then maybe give it to me to have a go with the full res version we see there.

It's too good to throw away.

Bambi ... leave your dog alone!!

Really nice shot Kat. You have quite an eye.

Hey..I didn't know lightroom had a correction for this! It worked except for that one big rock in the front!! I think I can handle him!!

It's HDR and I see it on two of the three exposures. They are all in raw. Can I alter those raw images before I use the photomatrix?

Yes! In LR you can adjust both the red and cyan fringing. See Kat ... a little sleep and you come back all ready to learn again :)

Great job removing the CA Kat!!

I liked the colour in the sand though. I'll nominate it with or without the colour though!

Lol...I meant the opposite MA...I want her to clean them up! in my shots even one is what my eye immediately goes to first so I always get them all...:D I gave a friend a framed enlagement of a shot I took remently and I forgot to remove one teensy tinsy spot and every time I see that great shot, my eye immediately goes right for that damned spot! :wall-an:
Would that be considered type A?

Ok. It's a wonderful shot. Love the heavy sky. I put the two shots on my monitor and alt-tabbed between the two. I can see the changes you made, kat, however, I cannot see the "problem" to begin with. Maybe it's my laptop monitor just not being good enough. Maybe I'm just partially blind but please can someone show me this somehow? It makes me wonder what my stuff looks like when I put it out there. Goes back to my monitor calibration discussion.

Final color..anymore and it just brings trouble back for some reason!!!

I cropped the original and whited some of the areas...see if that helps?
