I was letting my dog out last and happened to catch this full moon.

i love moon shots! try cropping close and you can see a ton of detail in the moon. :-)
there is a bit of shift in the clouds whcih tells me that you shot was hand held... using a tripod helps a ton with that or at a minimum, stablize the camera on a flat surface and set the camera's self timer - you should see a bit less of the ghosting.
Other than that, great job!

It could be a bit sharper but i like this! There is a 'face' in the cloud at the right...super cool. Can u describe the treatment?

Hi Marko
Thanks for asking. I was kinda like HDR. I took three images on the moon. One under by two stops..One normal and one over by two stops.. I darkened the underexposed image to bring out the detail in the moon. I brought the underexposed imaged and the normal exposed into photoshop. The under exposed image was on the top layer and the normal layer on the bottom. I created a mask on the top layer.. inverted the mask the black and painted the moon with a white brush..I then flattened the image. I brought the overexposed image into photoshop and placed on the bottom layer..Created another mask on the top layer-inverted and painted the image with a white brush. I flattened the image and then I selected a bluish color next to the moon and painted the moon with that color at a 10% opacity. Flattened and then re-sized.
Hopefully I explained the masking process correctly..It is easier to do than explain *L*.
It's too bad cameras do not have the dynamic range to capture what your eyes see:(
Thanks for taking time to comment :)

It take a little practice...a little luck....a little photoshop.. a few exposures and a tripod .
You will get it:)
My problem is a lens that would make the moon appear anything more than a dust spot :P

I feel your pain. I blew my photography budget on the DSLR upgrade this spring but now I'm shooting with the kit lens :( Maybe Santa will bring me a nice zoom :fingerscr

I love this shot too. Wonderful capture. I've often wanted to capture just this type of image. My capture involves tree branches though. I see it most fall evenings as the moon drifts across my backyard. Maybe I'll try this HDR thing (haven't made the plunge yet) and see what I can come up with.
I want sooo many things I can't even get around it :(

Its a funny weird photo, but I liked it. Looks like a security cam picture.
