I think I have finally figured out a big problem I have been battling with. It appears my camera has a back focus error:wall-an: After attempting some shallow depth of field shots using a tripod I find my images are not focused where I had set the focus at. Instead a point behind it is in focus, so now on with the serious testing. If anyone else is having a similar problem here is an excellent site http://regex.info/blog/photo-tech/focus-chart

With my Olympus I could do a long tripod exposure with OIS/VR enabled with no grief but I've learned the hard way that Mr. Nikons VR gets its knickers in a knot if VR is not turned off and will focus badly a lot of the time on longer time tripod stuff. Not saying that's your problem but it sure was mine :)
