View Full Version : Quick release plate issue

I recently purchased a new tripod (details are at http://truewill.deviantart.com/journal/26189542/ if anyone's interested), and found one drawback to quick release plates: older equipment (Gorillapods, bean-bag pods, hiking monopods) is not usable with the plate attached. The plate I have is from Acratech and attaches with an Allen wrench, so it's not easy to pop on and off.
Does anyone know of an inexpensive adapter that will attach to equipment such as the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom (universal 1/4" tripod screw) and will provide Arca-Swiss type clamps for a quick release plate?
Thanks much!

I use a Kirk L bracket, they make very nice stuff. You can look at their quick release plates (http://www.kirkphoto.com/QR_Universal.html). I wont buy anything unless it is arca swiss style. I wish the entire photo community would do the same so there would be a universal plate.

I purchased their QRC-2 quick release clamp, and it works fine with the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom and my plate. At first it wasn't tight on the Gorillapod, but I found there's a screw on the bottom of the Gorillapod to tighten it. Even horizontally, the camera isn't going anywhere. (With my non-Kirk plate I don't want to release the clamp when the camera's horizontal, though - it would slide right out.)
It works with the bean-bag Pod, but the extra height of the clamp causes some wobble (not the clamp's fault). The Gorillapod was the main accessory I wanted to use it with in any case.
Good advice; thanks again!
