Now you've made me suspicious tegan :D

This is quite a nice shot. I can tell it's photoshopped (or similar) as some elements LOOK more like a painting than a photo to my eye anyway. Both the piper and the tree don't look as seamless as the background, with the tree looking more artificial than the piper in relation to the background. Both the water and shy look really well done!

That said - this is a lovely image with a warm feel. Personally I think this image works even better with some cropping on the right side (maybe 20%)

Also this shot may well work without the tree altogether, cropping the shot just 10-15% farther than the rock toward the left.

The manual to the program I am using is 500 pages, so as you can imagine, I am starting at the very beginning. Building environments out of 3 dimensional polygons is complex to say the least. I discovered I goofed by saving the preview version rather than the final one which means that the image is a little more primitive than what would normally be the case.

Although the bag piper looks out of place, I "borrowed" her from an equally out-of-place location shot on a rock below a lighthouse. I had another shot of a bag piper near the Trans Canada Highway. (looking equally out-of-place) The ground is typical of the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, near Hopewell but I created it in 3D along with the water, sky, tree, and rock. At Hopewell however the tree would have been on a small piece of land raised high up from the "bottom" of the bay. I haven't learned how to do that yet. I took the virtual photo and then added the bag piper in Photoshop. (I am still not quite sure how to match resolution while sizing a selection from one image to go into another or how necessary it is.)

You're really close though tegan and i suspect this shot may 'fool' many people's eyes. It's the tree more than the piper actually that brings attention to itself as an 'artificial element'.

You are getting good through and this is tough work. A photographer with a good eye can usually spot unnatural elements. The devil, as always is in the details.

I'm curious to see what you will dream up next.
