You need to start small.

These types of effects are done with HUGE budgets and software that costs as much as a car or more.

Everything in these shots is manipulated with software and probably started off with a green screen.

These shots take years of practice and LOADS of computer experience.

If others have more practical advice, please feel free.

Thanks!

Three dimensional image software such as Lightwave on a lower level allows the user to create almost any kind of 3d image and background and lower level fractal generators such as Bryce allow you to create realistic looking nature scenes with lakes, mountains, skies etc. Ray tracing features or standalone programs allow you to create perfect reflections in mirrors, water or metal. With these programs you have absolute and total control of the smallest detail including lighting, colour, surface texture, degree of sheen or "shinyness" etc. You can even add hollywood lighting: quartz, halogen, incandescent, flourescent, spots etc. complete with gels and barn doors and put them in your seen to create any effect you want.

Animation is another feature and computer methods now exist to create random rain or snowfalls, leaves blown by the wind etc. and all kinds of other magic. It is an easy step with software to put a person into the scene.

Thanks so much for that info. tegan, I really don't know too much about graphics programs other than photoshop which I use to do almost everything photography related.

Just curious, since you do seem to know a lot about these programs, if azbi_s were to use one of those programs for the first time, how long do you think it would take to produce either of those posted images?

Thanks!

There is a quite a learning curve involved and a lot of technology and physics related to light, colour and texture in the top programs which cost $1200 plus such as 3D studio max and Lightwave. They also require a considerable amount of computer "horsepower" as well. There are free programs in this area as well, but they tend to be less user friendly and still require a lot of heavy learning.

To give anyone a taste, I would suggest that they take a look at any demo on the Internet of Bryce 6. It is not a high-priced program at all at about $100 US. Better still, you can play with a free copy of Bryce 5.5.
