Well this photo was taken several months ago. Please tell me what you think...

I really like the feel and mood of this shot, but I found the tree somewhat distracting. So I quickly removed it to see if the image was stronger. I prefer it without the tree, but that is just my opinion.

I like it with the tree in it, shot looks off without it, too clean looking, just leave the tree in and it works.

I think it's a very good photo, but with margin for some improvement. I actually prefer the version without the tree. I also thing you should add just a little more contrast, so it pops a little bit more.

I'd echo those thoughts. I'm wondering if Nik Silver Efex played any role in post.

Another vote for "With tree".

I like it better with the Tree myself too, However, I would crop a good portion of the right side leaving more space in front of the ship and accentuating the framing effect fromed by the tree and the shoreline.

I just like the way we all have our ideas what looks best. This really shows that photography is open for individual interpretations. The original shot obviously stirred something in all of us otherwise there wouldn't be this debate. So Matthew keep up the good work.

If given the choice, I like the image without the tree.
I'm not sure i would have cloned it out had i shot it with the tree, but seeing these 2 side by side, the image without the tree looks more balanced to my eye. Hope that helps - Marko

I'd say keep the tree ... add contrast ... get the fog more white and it'd be a very cool shot. :)

Thanks everyone for the input.
Interesting exersize - cutting out the tree....never occured to me, but I like the tree having looked at them side by side. I agree the fog needs to be whiter, when I turned this into a jpeg for posting I didn't really pay attention to it and the cast became a little too yellow from ths split toning I had applied in PS.
As far as the contrast goes, ya, hmm.... I like the low contrast, the fog was REALLY thick and actually the contrast was boosted a fair bit already. I think if the contrast was boosted any more it would look too processed and fake - but if anyone else has a shot in the fog that has high contrast I would love to see it.
Anyway thanks!!
