Let me know what you think about the hair flying and backlighting on this shot!

Nice! I like the windy feel to this. Catchlights in the eyes - check. Nice expression - check.

My only critique is that the hand is a distraction and the backlighting is too strong. It looks like there is a spotlight behind her rather than just having some highlighting.

Overall, it's a great shot, just needs a bit of tweaking.

Thanks very much, i'll see if I can lighten the light a bit.

I'd be curious to see that result Chantelle for comparison. For me it's the hand that is the distraction here, the shot didn't need it IMO.
I think the crop is too high on her chest as well. Hope that helps - and I'm really glad to see and help with these types of portraits.

I think she looks wonderful. I see the hand and wonder if it's there to hold the scarf in place? I can't give much critique..I haven't attempted photos like this..but can't wait!

Keep it coming...!

The flying hair is really an eye catcher! It's a very fine shot!

Ok here's an attemp to lighten the light around her hair...didn't work as well as I hoped. Pity I can't borrow this model again and do it again. Imo I like the light, and I also like where it's cropped, after all it was ment to be a head and shoulders crop when my course teacher showed us what to do. As for the hand...didn't realise it was a distraction, and yes I think she did hold her hand there to hold the scarf up. The scarf just didn't want to fly either so I had to get her to flick it up as I took the photo.

That is the only one of the scarf I have, perhaps you like this one better though:

Interesting that second shot.
The crop is better but the model looks better in shot 1.
The eyes seem to have changed colour between shots, I prefer the colour in shot 1. Hope that helps - Marko

Yea I played around with eye colours in the second shot, it's a more serious looking shot.

fantastic however i'm thinking the backlighting is too hot maybe use a cooler temperature lamp or a gell. i guess since the foreground and subject appear to be a lot cooler than the backlight

:twocents:

also, a neat effect to soften that type of shot it to use a diffuser on the lens, you can use vaseline or stockings :P
