Sorry, old chap. I’m afraid that if I told you, I’d have to kill you. Top secret, don’t you know. :)

Actually, this shot is very nearly a year old. The circular objects you see laying on a piece of blue glass and shot with a Nikkor 60mm Macro are used in water treatment and known by the trade name of Amberlite. The largest of them would easily fit on the head of a pin. In fact, without having actually tried, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that you might be able to fit two of them.

They’re made of some sort of resin and act as a catalyst in the water treatment process. Slippery little buggers, they are. If even a small amount is spilled on a hard floor, they act like microscopic ball bearings and will take your feet from beneath you at the drop of a hat. The amount of Amberlite that I placed on the blue glass to get this shot was so small that it barely covered the tip of the tea spoon I used to dip it out of the container I had it in.

When the image is viewed as it appears in camera they are, as the trade name implies, very much amber in color. The fact that they appear a bluish black in the image posted here is that I set a black point that removed all but a trace of that amber glow that I found a little overpowering under the crude lighting I used.

As always, I appreciate the positive feedback.
