Podcast #68 - Creating a physical portfolio

How about one on a physical portfolio, I have one but it is being redone and separating it into 3 distinct portfolios for each aspect of my photography and will all be done by next week so it occurred to me, maybe mistakenly it might be a decent podcast in the future. To Have a good portfolio to take to clients, is a must in my opinion, just shows your work much better than an online one does. I always thought having a physical portfolio along with an online one is important. People like what I have on my site, when they see the actual photograph it has a far greater impact. Maybe a podcast on making a basic portfolio that you carry with you. Just a thought ..... maybe you did it already, not one that is all that attentive lol ....

I did a podcast on presenting to galleries a few months ago http://www.photography.ca/blog/?p=117

but this idea focuses on the actual prints...which is interesting. It may be one of those things that is changing so rapidly that there is no standard.
Lemme think about this one for a bit...and feel free to suggest precise things you'd like to see covered.

Well just some ideas, so you want one you can change the photos on a frequent basis, does the paper matter, I use different papers for different papers depending on the photo, not every ones does needs too, then you might explain an acid free type photo portfolio. If you have photos and the paper type is not important it is an option I know Apple Aperture has they will print a book last time I checked I all came to about $45 for, other places do it also. So type of portfolio and what you should put in, if your a wedding photographer you don't add photos from the last Death Metal concert you were at. Context, choice, option and if you have more than one line considering separate portfolios. Just saw some photography portfolios I was sure they had no idea on how to put one together, it is how you sell yourself, has to come across as professional and should only contain relevant photos to your potential client. My Fine Art is one, my Boudoir another and one just for my Concert stuff. My Boudoir and Fine could be combined but best keep them separate some people are very narrow minded. Just some ideas on how I think it should be done, but you may have more of different ideas. I think many photographers trying to get into the field underestimate what a well done portfolio can do for you.
