Help with background

Okay I took this picture with my first old camera and I played with it last week and turn it to B&W with some colour, but I cannot get the white sticker on the left out, any advice as I am still learning with the photoshop stuff!

hey jventer. This was pretty easy to do and it looks good on the small image, I'm not sure what it will look like on a bigger file, but you can try.

this is what I did.

copy the background layer

double click the background layer and click ok, this unlocks the background layer and it is now called layer 0.

you need to flip layer 0 horizontal. edit>transform>flip horizontal.

now go to the top layer "background copy" and create a layer mask.

then carefully paint out the sticker. use a soft small brush.

Although you can refine ray's work a bit more, it's a great fast job with a huge difference! Ray's method was the one that also came to my mind immediately. Cute shot, not sure it needed the eye colour though. Love the drool!

Ray pretty much has it. I thought that I would add just a little to Ray's technique. after creating your second layer and flipping it. You could change the top layer's opacity so that you can see the image beneath. You could then use the selection tool to select the tag that you want to remove. After selecting it, you can right click and choose "select inverse". Now paint away the top layer entirely leaving the patch which should be still selected (or actually, not selected). Once you are done, deselect. Now use the blurring tool and cloneing tool to clean up.

What this will give you is a more accurate image to the original. If you notice in Ray's image (which is excellent) you can now see the seatbelt behind the childs right shoulder (left for our perspective).

Edit:

Oh yes, dont forget to turn the opacity back to 100% before using the cloneing tool to clean up.

I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty just to demonstrate the results. If you'd preffer I don't, please kindly say so and I won't do it again.

Now my image could use some more cleaning but I wanted to keep it short. I spent about ten minutes with your photo. If you saved this image to your HD and jumped back and forth between your original and this, You'd notice very little difference between them. Besides the fact the sticker is now removed.

I wanted to mention that I like Ray's a bit better because it looks more symmetrical. I would actually preffer to see the shoulder strap gone entirely because it's a bit distracting. I would use the clone tool to remove.
