I liked the DOF I got in this shot. Thoughts?

The depth of field is nice, but the shot looks like a lens test to me. Usually your shots wow me, but this one doesn't, just my honest opinion. :twocents:

I'd have to agree.

I think the depth of field creates an interesting look here. It's not a great photo, but I like it.

Thanks for those comments so far. As you know I rarely put photos in the critiques forum but when I do it's usually because I'm genuinely not sure about something or other, so honest answers are what I need.

What do you mean by 'Lens Test' exactly Greg?

It's what I call many of my photo's, technically it is good but it doesn't communicate anything to me.

Thanks Greg. This is one I've had for awhile and every time I've looked at it I couldn't decide if it had any worth or not, even though I do like it.

I have many photographs that for some reason I like. When I think of why I like it, it is more about a memory of the moment than the subject. It's very hard to separate that and be objective. I was once in a printing workshop with Bruce Barnbaum and he looked at one of my photos and said; "nice lens test". As the critique went on I found myself trying to defend what it meant to me and in the end I understood what he meant. The image spoke volumes to me but to other people it was two trees in good focus and tonal range.

If you want to rate only DOF I think it could be smaller, less F/... about the general composition it is poor, maybe a bird or something else would improve the picture at the left upper corner.
