I guess, my camera could have a little problem. Sometimes there are just “black pictures”. I can hear it coming, because it sounds like a very (too) quick closing shutter. After trying a second or third time I get my photo. Is there any problem known with the 40D from canon?

are you taking the lens cap off? sorry - I had to write that even though it doesn't make sense. :evil2:
If you have to take the same shot 3 times and it comes out only 1 time and you are not changing settings - yup problem. maybe a mirror problem?

Check the exif data on the black picture and see what exposure that shot ended up with. That may shed just a bit more light on whats going on.

It's possible, you light would still enter the chamber so while a picture wouldn't come out, it shouldn't be all black, or at least I wouldn't think so.
Another possibility is Exposure Bracketing. Is it every 3rd shot by chance? or maybe Exposure Bias. In either case check that your EXIF data for EV is 0 unless you have put an exposure bias.

Thanks - I'll look at the EXIFs of the next black photos.
