Hey all - Im a total newb and looking for some feedback. Feel free to rip these apart - I know Ive got a lot to improve on.

The first pic is of the Capital building in Havana (I just got back from Cuba). For the 2nd one, I took in later in the day, cropped it, and tried to give it a dark and gloomy look through post-processing. There was some smoke in the background and I thought it looked good when I made the red roofing and the yellow lighting pop.

Thanks in advance for any advice- this is a great community and a really helpful resource for us beginners.

These are both nice shots that are impressive for a total newb!
Shot 1 seems nicely composed to me and i like it.
Shot 2 is more striking than shot 1 except for the sky. Love the orange light you added. The statues at the bottom are a bit dark for me and I might try to lighten them up a bit.
Hope that helps and welcome to the forum!!

Very nice. The first is especially well composed!

I think the first shot is just a snapshot. Nothing special about this.

But the 2nd shot is a Photo! A huge improvement made even better by the fact you returned to the location in a different light because you knew there was a better photo there. And you got it.

I agree with Marko that the statues are too dark. More dramatism could have been found by burning in the sky/smoke more.

Great start and welcome to ph.ca!

Welcome to the forums. I'm fairly new also and I hope you enjoy what you learn here, I sure am. The people in ur first shot seem a little distracting to me, would be more effective if it was recomposed zoomed further into the building, nice angle though. The second shot is excellent, great composition, however if only the sky had a bit more detail, can't help it if the sky is just a flat grey cloud colour though.

Great work!

I favour the second too. Since everything's pretty much said, I'm just going to say nice job! Love the orange light! And welcome to the forum =)

Do not listen to these guys. They all lie. The second image is not the best image. Its the first one. It just seems the sky is too blown out in the second for me to really say yes to it. Just one mans opinion though. Clearly, Im outnumbered.
