Lately Ive been contemplating going to the zoo to take some wildlife/animal pictures. Since I have started photography, it has been a personal opinion/ethic to capture animals as they are in the wild. Taking pictures at a zoo just does not seem as much of a challenge. Here in Toledo, we have one of the top rated zoo's in the world(along with our art museum). It seems silly to hold this opinion, when there is a lifetime of opportunity just a 15 minute drive away. At this point, I am holding my ground and keeping my camera out of the zoo, but maybe someone else can convince me otherwise.

Many zoo now are involve in breading programs for endangered species so supporting them supports this effort. You can also have fun photographing the animals that are on the outside of the cages.

That is a wonderful thought. I never would have looked at it that way. Adds a new twist to it. That is exactly what I was looking for. Would love to hear more.

I wish I could remember the details of the story but I remember hearing about a famous photographer who photo of a lion was in a magazine and displayed as a photo from Africa when in fact it was a field in Africa with a lion from the local zoo done as a double-exposure. Just an interesting fact I picked up somewhere... should research it so it's relevant.

Trying to get the wild look from an animal living in the zoo might be an interesting challenge and I really like Greg's take on the whole thing too.
