The roof is on FIRE!!

A friend of mine has decided to build a new house. He tore down the garage, and now "THE ROOF! THE ROOF! THE ROOF IS ON FIRE!" Another friend also moved to California the following morning to pursue a career in filming. We have these fires about twice a month and get everyone together for a relaxing night around a fire.

I didn't have my 2.0/50mm so the exposures took a little longer than I would have like but wanted to get a critique anyways.

I know there are three here, so just pick one you like or dislike and give me a few words on it. Thanks.

I like shot 3 the best but the composition could use improving. The right 3rd of the image is practically black. All the fun is happening on the left side.
Had you shot through the flames and sparks from the front side, I think the image would be way stronger. Love the sparks in this shot btw.

Thanks Marko. I was having the same thoughts. It was hard wanting to take pictures, but try and enjoy myself with everyone at the same time. One of those situations where the camera takes the back seat.....Didnt spend much time with composition, they are pretty much well taken snaps.

It's really tough taking shots in those conditions so I can't be too critical really. But, then again, you did ask :)

Shot 1 ... unappealing ... not a single element in focus

Shot 2 ... see shot 1

Shot 3 ... looking better ... an interesting element present in the sparks and the people look almost sharp. As Marko said I think there were better compositions present you could have utilized.
Also, if you have a decent flash maybe experiment with some 2nd curtain work next time.
