Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I'm a bit of a photography newbie as well. I've recently just started shooting black and white film and was wondering if you guys can give me some feedback, I'm looking for things like composition tips, proper exposures, maybe some processing techniques.

I'm using Ilford HP5, ID-11(stock for 7.5 minutes) and Rapid Fixer to process my film.

Here's a flickr set that I shot using an old Nikon FG:

Note: some of the shots are purely to help me get use to handling the camera, so please don't make fun of my subjects. :)

Hi Carlo,

You'll find the best critiques will come when you upload one or 2 pix per thread.

Just curious why are all these black and whites reddish?

If you are just learning b/w, I recommend printing in b/w for a while.
This is just personal preference here, but this tone of red doesn't work for me. I much prefer sepia which for me is much less red than this and considerably browner.

Hope that helps
Marko

Thanks Marko!

I will definitely pick 1 or 2 of my faves and let everyone have it! :)

As for the red tint, I'm actually not quite sure why they turned out like that. I used a film scanner to digitize my shots so I'm thinking it has something to do with the settings. I try not to do any editing with my pictures because it helps me look back and see what I could've done better when taking my shots.

Thanks for the tips Marko, greatly appreciated!
