Who remembers those good old tunes of the 80's. Taken by storm with artists like Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and many others, the advent of the tape also created a little stir. So, who remembers these things? Pretty killer huh dude?

You could even put really nice alkaline batteries in them and hold them on your shoulder.....

Wow! A cassette deck/boom box! You're starting to date yourself ;) There's something special about having your tunes to go in a more meaningful way than a 2cm square iPod Shuffle!

Interesting subject explore. I like 'em.

Isnt it cool?!?!?! This is one of those fancy ones. It has a counter!!! It also stops at the next song when you are fast forwarding!! A nice piece of equipment back in the day, featuring two-way speakers. Too bad I can take anyones hair from the 80's.

OMG does that bring back the memories...I remember in highschool I was the first kid to have one of those things...my Dad got me one on a navy trip to San Diego. All the popular kids (read stuck-up mean girls and boys) at first wanted me to hang out with them at lunch so they could listen to my boom box! Until they got their own that is....Mind you mine only had one speaker but no one else had one back in '81-'82!
Too funny....JJ thanks for the memories with this thread!

Remember them...I recently bought one:D A big red Sony that plays mp3's, just awesome for the deck. But I fondly remember the 80's in Toronto with these big Jamaican dudes in muscle shirts walking down Yonge street with three foot wide blasters hoisted up on their shoulders blasting out Jimmy Cliff tunes...Good times:)

My friend had a JVC that came to every party- I wanted one like it so bad. Sounded great, took a beating, kept ticking. Fell from a book case about 6ft high one time- no worse for wear. Back in the day of mixed tapes- before it became associated with pirating and copyright issues. A happier time perhaps. But I didn't know there were any good ole tunes of the 80s. Now, the 60s and 70s on the other hand....
That JVC must have been at least a little defective...it only played Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Uriah Heep, and if we ever tried Michael Jackson or Duran Duran it would eat the tape.

I remember I heard about John Lennon dying on mine....the DJ on KISW radio in Seattle was crying and all these listeners were phoning in trying to console him.
I also used to tape SNL off the TV with it...this was back in the days of Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Bill Murray, and co.
Cool memories...again, thanks JJ!
I'm sure I must be dating myself by now!

The good ole tunes of the 80's. Yep I said it. haha While they are great, they are still good to listen to sometimes. Would still much rather listen to the Stones, Zepp, Beatles, etc. Inhale, if a 'boom' box only played bands from the 60's and 70's, it was for sure to be a little defective, exhale. haha
