If you could choose one of the three where I can upload some photos, which site?
1.Flickr
2.Photobucket
3.Picassa
I notice a lot of people on here use Flickr or Photobucket and I was wondering the advantages of each one over the others. I have Picassa on my computer and was curious to know too if anyone uses that site as well. Thanks :)
It will depends a little on your work flow and what software you use. I use Lightroom which can export to flickr and picassa. This is so convenient so you don't have to use any other software.
I use Flickr for my more artistic stuff and google for my personal/event stuff. Flickr is more of a community but the free version is much more limited. You can only have 3 set(album) and you have a upload(about 100mb) every month. Picassa's total limit 1024mb for all of your photos, and there is not much of a community. You can have lots(unlimited?) albums but only 500 photos per album(I have only hit this limit once when I shot an MTB event).
I use Picassa when I have a group of photos I want to share. Friends can also get emails from picassa every time you add photos, which is a nice feature for keeping the grandparents in the loop when I upload holiday photos of the kids.

There is also SmugMug but it is a pay site. Not too expensive considering unlimited files upload. You can also set up to sell your photos online with them.

I have only heard great things about smugmug...but I'm cheap:D

I like Flickr for this forum and I use Photobucket for other forums and for the Proboards forum I run.
I started with flickr to share pictures with family and had them all load family pictures that I could download for a 'photo frame' for my parents. But the community there is excellent. I love the Commons and I sometimes get lost in Flickr going from one image to the next. The exif data is certainly helpful in learning how some of the images were achieved.
I recently learned that the club I work at has hundreds of old historical black and whites and I have been begging them to load them onto flickr. (Maybe I should volunteer)
