Lightroom CC: Crop in a preset

Hello everyone,

Is there some way to get Lightroom CC to include the crop in a processing preset? I'm setting up a little photobooth for my daughters' birthdays and with the camera static there's no need to adjust the crop more than once, so I'd rather it be automated.

Rather than do it in a preset, why not just sync

- In the develop module - develop the first 1 photo with the crop you want (and any other adjustments you wish to apply to all photos)

- Next select all photos that you want to crop including the photo just developed (ctrl or shift click to select from film strip at the bottom)

- click the "sync button" (bottom of the adjustment column) (if is says "autosync", click the little toggle at the left to make it say "sync")

- a screen will pop up with "Synchronize settings" . Ensure "crop" is ticked (and any adjustments you would like to apply to all images)

- click "synchronize"

Done

The alternative would be to record an action in Photoshop and export it as a droplet to LR that can be then used like a preset

Hmm, somehow my reply got lost. The trouble is that I want it to do the cropping automatically with each image as it comes in from the tethered camera, that way it shows up cropped and processed on the TV slideshow without any input.

And now a few hours later because apparently I forgot to post my reply the second time! (Must be late...) I've figured a fairly convoluted way to do it.

I finally found that Jeffrey Friedl has a plugin that will automatically crop the images on the export. At first I thought this was great, but then realized that I lose my post-crop vignette, or at least two sides of it. So to get around that in Photoshop I made a 1:1 vignetted frame on a 8:12 image, with the center portion transparent. Saved that as a PNG and used it as a watermark. And now there's perfect 1:1 vignetted images going straight to the slideshow! Perfection.

I still wish there was just a way to get the Quick Develop to stick with a chosen crop rather than defaulting back to "original" each time a new photo comes in.

Thanks for the help! Though it may not seem that your advice was used to find the answer, I promise you it nudged my brain to look in the right places and I probably would have either never come up with an answer or have taken much longer to find it.

Now I just have the build the rig!
