Baton Rouge Symphony Opening Night Gala (photo heavy - color & B/W images)

If you don't remember, I did a couple free photo shoots for the symphony, mostly for practice and to get my name out there. Well, it worked, they hired me to shoot their Opening Night Gala and the Opening Night concert.

They wanted me to do a "Step & Repeat" shoot, which caused me to miss the cocktail hour party. I should have brought my cheap Canon T1i and mounted it, used it for the Step & Repeat, while using my 5Diii for the cocktail party.

I had to go black and white for the concert because the the background was mostly orange, overpowering the image.

the concert was also a difficult shoot because of the limited places I could shoot from (just off stage, behind the audience, etc). It is the same place where I shoot my daughters' dance recitals every year.

I still have a lot of images to process from the concert.

Due to the stage lighting, some of the shots on stage appear to have the highlights blown out (or close too). I suspect a slight adjustment to the highlights slider in LR will recover some of the lost highlight detail

You should have seen them before I did exactly what you said, they were very blown out. All images have been submitted to the customer, but if they say something, I will adjust.

Strong set AT - They should be happy - nice variety here. How nervous were you?

My fave is (leaning piano player) 96. Fab gesture.

I also really like the toast shot (40) though I might try cropping left (to lose the bright windows and empty seat, and then up top to even out the proportions).

How nervous were you?

Not too nervous. It's my third time shooting with them plus I have shot the venue many times. I was more nervous shooting the "Step & Repeat" more than anything because I don't do portraits very well.

I had my flash off camera with wireless trigger and a large flash defuser, it worked well.

I definitely like all the BW pics.
