For those of you who don't know what "Jump the Shark" means, there was a TV show here in the US called "Happy Days". It was one of th greats. One episode, Fonzie (a main character) jumped a shark in a cage, while he was water skis. The show went down hill from there, hence, "Jump the Shark"!

Back to the topic:

I have noticed a major decline in all aspects of photography, from Facebook to threads started in forums (including this one). I've seen forums where when you posted a picture, you would get several replies, to now, where you may get one. Plus the number of threads started. I am not just talking about this forum (because it is a small one to begin with). I am talking the major ones like Canon's and others.

I've seen one forum that use to be very busy, no one has even posted in the critique section (it was their busiest section) in nearly 2 weeks.

Was the rise in photography the last 10 years or so finally come back down?

Was it a flash in the pan?

Are people realizing that by just buying an expensive DSLR doesn't make them a good photographer?

google changed how they rank sites a month ago. If you site is not mobile friendly...u are in the doghouse.....Every site redesign takes time and cash. many sites were affected (ranking dropped way down) including this one.
Sadly I have had no time to attempt a fix, which is NOT cake and will cost $. But I realize that a site without more traffic is a detriment to the existing community.
- I will try to fix it when I get back- scout's honour. I hope current members will hang around.

so no, photography is more popular than ever... but if you don't bow to google...traffic goes in the toilet.

I wasn't really talking about this site as much as some of the others. This has always been a small membership site, which makes it great.

The thing about Google makes sense because some of the bigger sites changed their format and I guess that is why.

I can't speak for all the other sites, but as for this one...and photography in general...I have been so oooòoohhhh busy with my kids a band the summertime, and life in general. That canon site with the four letter initials that starts with p...I had stopped going to that site because a lot of those members came off as pompous pricks, especially the elitists that would hang out in the critiques section...

You may just be noticing the summer time slump.... things are slow in my entire online world for the last couple of weeks.... people are outside and not connecting as much... I suspect it will spike come September.
