I have recently downloaded the new version of Lightroom CC.

As part of the program launching for the first time it updated the catalogue and created a new one. That is all fine.

If I manually open LR CC it opens fine with the new catalogue and I can import photos as required. So far so good.

Previously I have LR set to automatically load when I insert a memory card. My problem is that the old version Lightroom 5 is automatically loaded (not LR CC ) with the corresponding old catalouge. .

I HAVE changed the autorun option in Windows to launch version 6. Still no change. In fact I have now made it so I select each time the program to open and I manually select LR 6 (the new CC) yet LR5 still opens. I have played with the preferences in the import options in LR to no avail.

Has anyone else had this problem, or can direct me how to remedy this?

I think it's a buggy release. I can't get LR6 to upgrade my old catalog without crashing. I spent several hours on the phone yesterday with Adobe support to no avail. They did discover that by creating a new user profile, LR6 will work properly. But I would have to reimport all my photos and switch back and forth to that profile. Crazymaking. So I think that means the current release doesn't play nice with user settings in Windows. They suggested I contact Microsoft for a solution. I'd rather poke my eye out. I'll use LR5 in the meantime. Maybe they'll publish a fix eventually. This does sound somewhat similar to the problems you've been having RM, but I don't know enough to know for sure.

I may have read that if you sign out of CC and then sign back in again some bugs work themselves out.

(It's for this exact reason that I never upgrade to anything immediately).

Yeah on both my installs they did not show up immediately. The fix is just to logout of creative cloud and back in again. Other than that all was as simple as Scott Kelby states in his podcast. But both my installs were the new LR CC, not LR 6.

Thanks for that. Yes I did have to log off and then on again to install.

I have just tried again logging off and back on again on but my problem remains.

It is interesting that I did install LR CC but the only option I have on the card autoplay program is LR6 (plus LR5 and the other normal options). Looking around the net it appears others are having this problem but I still haven't found any fix.

Looks like for the time being I will have to disable the auto launch. No big deal.

Maybe someone here can answer a question for me since it seems to be a Lightroom upgrade thread. Got a note the other day that there was an upgrade available but when I click to upgrade, it doesn't upgrade, it just takes me to the Lightroom web site. Do I have to move to CC to upgrade from my current version (which is 5.6 or 5.7 - can't remember... I'll check when I'm at home)???

Yes it is a new version. LR6 is pretty much the same as LR CC with some minor differences. Both were released at the same time.

LR CC is the subscription version and LR 6 is the standalone purchased version.

If you have the LR monthly subscription, you can automatically upgrade to what is now called LR CC.

If you have standalone LR 5.?? then you have to pay to upgrade to LR6 or subscribe to get LR CC.

From memory I think you bought standalone LR 5 and I tend to recall you haven't had LR for very long, so it may be worth checking is there is a clause that allows free upgrading to LR6, if you bought it less than say 6months earlier

Overall though, the CC is the way to go. For $10 per month you get both Photoshop and LR, which means the upgrades are automatic. If you decide to go with LR 6, there won't be any free upgrades except for what might be necessary to fix a bug and that sort of thing.

I agree with JAS, but be aware if you ever cease the subscription you will no longer be able to use LR CC or PS CC

I'll check into it. I hate the idea that I have to start paying every month... everything is turning into a constant subscription. It's hard to just buy something for a reasonable price these days.

In case this might help someone, I found a solution to the problem I was having upgrading LR CC. Sure enough, this is a common problem and Adobe Support eventually published a fix at https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/unable-launch-lightroom-55.html that involves renaming two different program files in different places so that the new program isn't looking for them. Simple to follow instructions. This came after a week of switching to a new user profile to run LR CC at all. First world problems... but I find it kind of weird that their telephone support experts couldn't help me figure this out.

I had stumbled across this as well. I tried the renaming the folders and after that Lightroom didn't want to launch at all and told me to re-install LR. I quickly changed the names back again and thankfully it reverted to where I was previously. There was a patch that came out a few days ago that also didn't fix my problem either.

I am intrigued that you said to change the "program files". Was this actually program files or folders, as the advice you sent said to rename the folders.

RM you are correct. I renamed a folder per the directions.
