I noticed you controlled the exposure much better than I. Their breast is incredibly white.

Yeh the whole photo looks a stop over to me. For some reason the camera saw the scene as dark I think and upped the exposure on you. Do you have the exif data on it? Or a link to your picasaweb album where I can view it?
He has very pale feet doesn't he?

He does. I also noticed that the beak is a different shade too. They must be cousins ;)

I got a few more but this gull had the best focus. If I could have combined the focus of this one with the exposure of my next shot I would have been bang on ;)

Well .... the exif data is interesting ...
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/1000 sec
Aperture: 4.5
Obviously the fstop could have been and should have been higher. Must have been a very, very bright day.
I'm guessing it was an automatic setting and not a manual selection seeing as the shutter speed is so high and the aperture so wide.
I'm sure a quick play in curves would right the exposure somewhat.
They DO look like the same species don't they? Maybe yours is just damn cold!! ;)

I love the way birds always look like they are posing.

Mine was posing ... he walked up and as I raised the camera he turned 180 and then looked back ... it was like he was on a catwalk! :)

Shot 1 looks awesome on my monitor which has been dulled down after calibration (a topic that will be released as a podcast tomorrow or tuesday)
Nice capture!

I wish I could claim it was an automatic thing but no, just my own silliness. Have you seen the other thread about forgetting things... ;) I just finished taking a shot in the shade. I was shooting manual and just spun up the shutter speed to get close to a proper exposure. I had neglected to check the aperture. :( The next couple of shots were better exposed but didn't focus as well. Point and shoot cameras do have their drawbacks...

Here's another I took this morning ... poor little guy only had one leg but he was still able to enjoy the morning as it breathed life into the day.
