I decided I'm only a geek when I'm sitting here talking to you lot or out taking non event photos http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/hihi.gif
My day starts with me swinging hammers, drilling, screwing (down JJ down boy), as I build offices for real Geeks ;)
But then I do some graphic artist work for web design so that's back to 'Geeksville' I guess too
I also mountain bike (rcreational and race) and ride road (cycling) as well. Not Geek-like behaviour at all.
So, what do you Geeks do? Who are you exactly?
Extreme sports fanatics? A champion sweater knitter? A Race car driver? An Office Geek? Professional photographer? Maybe simply a devoted housewife and mother? Which btw is a stressful and strenous job in itself!!
Tell us a little about you! http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/searchme.gif

Hmmm. I am a professional unemployed college graduate still. Quite the opposite of geek so I learn about photography and law to keep my mind going when there is nothing to do. I am generally fishing, camping, hiking, taking a short road trip, kayaking or figuring out my next adventure. Generally my camera accompanies me on the adventures in case something trips my shutter. Since ice time is expensive to get here, a few others and myself started an inline hockey league here in the city. We are starting up our second summer this year and have almost 200 members involved. I mountain bike a lot as well but lost both tires a couple summers ago and havent fixed it since, the kayak took over since then. Would love to get to Boundary Waters area or Alaska for an excursion with my tent, pack and kayak. High adventure is the name of my game, been white water rafting in West Virginia in the New River twice. White water rafting in Alaska, mountain climbing there as well. Went skydiving a couple years ago. Been on several hiking trips, spelunking(cavediving) numerous times, and rapelling many times. Wanted to learn to scuba diving but bungee jumping is first. It was supposed to be this summer but a few weddings came up and I ran out of money as well. I take a LOT of pictures when Im not doing the ladder.

I'm too geeky to be a "normal" and I'm too normal to be a geek.
That means I'm not normally cool, and I'm not geek-chic-cool. I fall right in the middle, which is the worst of both worlds.
Which basically means, everyone you ever meet thinks you will fix their computer for them (which as every semi-geek knows, enslaves you to that person's computer-whims for life.)
Hmm.
I'm a stay at home mom but used to be a Weather Observer (geek).
Before the days of kids, my life was lived for billiards (which I wish to get back into), a good game of poker and Friday night darts. Hmm..definately a geek! I don't do any of those things as of late but picked up hockey and photography. Oh, and I guess weight training.
Besides that, not to much to say. I'd say I"m more boring than geek though.

I also mountain bike. I also work at The Source by Circuit City, I play xbox, I love drifting/driving. Thats about the majority of it.
And starting in September I'm going back to school and taking Business to become a sels rep.

This is cool. No one's boring even though people often think they are.
Keep em coming :highfive:

fix their computer for them (which as every semi-geek knows, enslaves you to that person's computer-whims for life.)
I used to do this, still doing for some friends when they ask, but now like MA, working in "construction".
I'm a deficiency person, in Uk is called handyman, or even here for maintain buildings, units.

I'm a major geek. BSc in Computing Science. 25 years of programming computers. Our house has 3 desktops and 2 laptops. My day job is as an Information Architect where I research better ways to manage information and build software solutions. My spare time is spent either with my family or at the dojo where I practice Chito-Ryu (http://www.atlantickarateclub.ca/) karate. I like playing with YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/Iguanasan) and PicasaWeb (http://picasaweb.google.com/eulothg)

The first step is admitting it. Well done :D

I do non-geek stuff like turn a wrench, hike, snowboard and workout. And I was in the military...
Buuuut... I am an IT major student, have more computers in my living room than places to sit, enjoy build diy things and spend more than half my free time on the computer. And not to mention a serious gadget and tech fetish...
I am a geek! I admit it! Anyone who builds a computer into their car has to be a geek, right? There would be no argument if you saw my high school pic.
Hmm..wish you guys lived near me..I have a computer sitting beside me that won't work and this one dying!!!

I think I largely qualify as a geek. I manage large corporate computer systems and the 'geeks' who look after them. I have two PCs on my desk, a laptop, a blackberry and my iPod touch...
At home... well... it continues, but
I also love hiking, caving, abseiling, mountain bike riding and road cycling.
I do long distance road riding and have completed the Paris Brest Paris 1200km ride twice (and a few other 1200km rides).
So all in all, I'm half very geeking and half not.

You much more into road than I ever was Greg. Do you also do endurance MTB racing?
Have you seen my websites? mtbdirt.com.au and roadgrime.com.au ?
If you've been reading Enduro magazine for your mountain biking over the past several years you'd have read my articles and seen my photos. This year I've switched to Australian Mountain Bike magazine. I put 4 articles into their special edition that came out at Christmas and just submitted an article and photos for the next edition.

MA I'll check out your websites. I have not done any endurance mountain bike riding. My mountain bike riding slowed down when I had a stack in the bush and drove my right thigh bone (I'm sure there's a technical name for that) straight through my hip. Punched a hole straight through the acetabulum - the hip socket.
I don't have any side effects as long as I keep riding and keep fit. I think they screwed it together pretty well, but my head still remembers the pain
I still head bush, but just not as the same speed especially downhill.
I'll have to keep an eye out for your photos in the magazines.

Hi my name is Greg and I am a geek.
I start way too many projects and have the messiest desk around (A clean desk is the sign of a clean mind). Technology is my fix I can't get enough of it, learning just enough to be dangerous with most things.
The mountain bikers will like this panorama (http://viewer.vrmag.org/JUAN_ARAGON360GRADOS/las_bardenas_mountain_bike_photo_by_2007_juan_hern andez_carces.html)

Yep cool pano there Greg N
Ha! I'm such a GEEK! :goodvibes I was part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program in high school and also, Student Council. Lol, I guess we were all pretty nerdy since we would laugh at things like "I wish I was helicase so I could unzip *your* genes," and "I wish I was a derivative so I could lie tangent to your curve." LOL! :D Our friends in the regular program would see us and go "Wow, you guys are so IB." IB having become synonymous with geeky or nerdy.
And the geekiness hasn't stopped in first year uni since my first thought at realizing that the leaves were changing colours, was "oh, chlorophyll A and B are breaking down." I got teased A LOT for that one!
Ah, it's good to be a geek. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy036.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Recovery time: 2 weeks flat on my back in hospital (pretty well high on drugs from what I can remember ), 12 weeks without any weight bearing, and then I had to strengthen the muscles so I could walk again. I was pretty lucky I was really fit at the time. I actually got back on my bike, very slowly, well before I could walk. The bike helped as it was not very weight bearing.

Oh yeh merman ... you're a geek alright. You might even more of a geek than Gem!!
You do have a sliver of hope though ... you ride bikes and snowboard. Neither are geeky. But then you are sooooo Geeky that you think they are so that's a worry! More of those two activities and less of the other geek activities and your soul might be saved! ;)

I don't think I'm a geek but most of my friends are geeks so does that make me a geek by association....or perhaps a geek in denial?
I saw a t-shirt once that said "Talk nerdy to me" ...loved it!
