Just purchased the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 for my D80. (my 1st non-nikon lens). Noticed the pics where a bit brighter then any of my nikon lenses... of course I can adjust exposures but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience....

I have a tamron lens as well. It is athe 70-300 with the macro function. In my experience I would not say the pictures are any brighter than normal. The images do have more highlights and extremely dark regions. The pictures are extremely contrasty and generally soft unless used in ideal conditions. It is not a bad lens but you do get what you pay for. Not sure I would buy another one, but am glad I got to experience it. I still use it quite frequently though.

The brightness of lenses varies from lens to lens and if it's just a bit brighter, I would not worry unless you find it distracting.

your description more accurately describes what I have experienced - thanks! I can live with that - especially given the price for the 2.8 fixed aperture....

lol... that 70-300 isn't one of their stellar lenses...
their new 70-200 2.8 has killer resolution as well as their 17-50 2.8 and 90mm 2.8 macro... from what I see these three have been making big waves.... i almost bought the 70-200 but shelled out for the Nikkor just in case.

Congrats! is this your first fixed 2.8 zoom? this may be why everything appears brighter... big wide open hole in that lens..
edit: post some pictures.... lets see what that puppy can do...
