What type of photographer

I sit there and think of what I want out of photography. What would be my dream. What would satisfy me and make me think that, I have done it.


Is it a published photo, a contest winnner, a wedding shoot. What is/was yours? Do you even have one?

And what do you prefer to shoot? Should one just stick with nature shots and others to portraits. Can one have a great eye for both? I look through magazines and see images from photographers and in general..their shots are of one genre.

What makes you the most fustrated about photography?

I would suggest to you that most of us are more interested in the journey than the destination.

I take photographs of whatever moves me at the moment.

What frustrates me is when my photograph does not look the same as I saw it in my mind's eye.

What do I want? The photograph that records the moment I saw. What frustrates me the most? Not being able to capture that moment as I saw it.

photography for me is progression, constently trying to better myslef, and take better and better shots....
what i want is to continue to learn and to keep shooting,

I would like to continue expanding the creative side of photography through seldom used techniques and practices. Progressing through situations in photography and life simultaneously to tell a life long story through pictures. To continue a lifestyle as an artist, but take the measures necessary to provide an income for myself, whether its a wedding gig, or a 9-5.

The frustrating parts with a camera and without a camera parallel each other. Not being fully prepared/having the proper equipment, dead batteries, or missing knowledge about a subject are the most frustrating things about photography/life.

I try to shoot everything and anything. Although, I've found that I don't like shooting landscapes and buildings too much. What do I want out of it? It depends. If I'm shooting friends and family, then it's the moment I want to capture and the emotion behind it. But, if it's a person I don't know or a stranger on the street, then it's really the mood or feeling that I get from them that I want to capture. With everyday things, it's the simplicty and how ordinary things can be beautiful, that I want catch. And with other things, it's just the beauty that drives me.
Most frustrating thing right now? Not being able to shoot in low light without the flash!

So far I haven't 'specialised' too much in any particular strain of photography.

Shooting sporting events has been a regular thing for several years now and with that came getting my photos published in magazines and writing articles.

I've always loved taking photos of wildlife.

I find I really like dramatic light and shadow shots of all kinds also.

I strive to find nice landscape, sunrise, sunset shots too.

I think if I was told I could only shoot one type of photography it would be wildlife.

Not sure about dreams. I guess if I thought about it I'd like to travel the world taking photos of tourist destinations and surrounds.

Kat, your question strikes at the heart of the point I'm in in my photography journey right now.

What are my dreams, what do I like to shoot etc. It's one of the reasons I joined this forum, to tease these things out.

I like to shoot nature - animals, landscapes, sun rises/sets etc and different places. I like to achieve high impact shots, but often when I see the results, they're not what I saw in my mind's eye. This is one thing I want to work on.

What frustrates me most about photography, is that I don't get enough time to practice. Again one of my goals for this year.

I always thought I was a landscape photographer. I love taking pictures of landscapes and nature. I mainly got into this hobby because I always carried my camera with me on hikes and travels to record the moment. As I got more and more into it, I realized the artistic side of it all and have been striving to take better "snapshots" and tried to venture into other realms, such as portraiture, macro, etc., in order to better tell the whole story.

While I love looking at and showing off the cool artsy photos, the ones that give me the most satisfaction are the ones that connect personally with me and bring me back to that moment in time.

What frustrates me is when I am so excited just to be out photographing, I don't both checking my camera settings and spend half a day shooting with the wrong white balance, image size or iso.

I would hate to have to choose any direction in photography, some people I think have inclination towards a particular field of photography. I enjoy industrial photography but as time passed I picked up other passions, I love to shoot bands but would not want to only do that.

I now shoot, bands, industrial, scenic, architectural, etc. and recently started doing pin up and boudoir. The more diverse my photography gets, the far more I am loving it. I find doing photography that I thought I would never try, trying because with each facet of photography it improves my skills for the photography I genuinely enjoy. And some aspects I thought I would never enjoy I have found quiet pleasant and now enjoy doing.

Try it all, for me at least has lead to greater experimentation and artistic risk and greater knowledge and I believe an all around better photographer.

Macro is what intrigues me the most, I think - I want to shoot snowflakes - teeny tiny bugs that would fill the frame.
