hi I am busy with an assignment where I have to take my greyscale card with aperture on f/8 iso on 100 and start with correct exposure then increase it so that I can get a RGB of 0 0 0 , For some reason my camera can only get to shutter speed of 250 and I cannot get a reading of 000. Any advice on what I am doing wrong

What sort of camera?
Have you switched the camera to 'm'anual mode (if it has one) ?

Also - do you have flash turned on? 250 is about the maximum shutter speed you can expect when using it with flash (camera dependent).

Well that's why then. Turn it off, and you'll be able to get above the max flash sync speed of the camera.
If you don't know why, google flash sync speed to understand how shutter speed works in combination with flash.

thanks I managed to get it right now :), I did not understand my assignment as they asked to take a meter reading off the grey card and I thought that I should have my flash on
