Hi members,
Anyone have suggestions for this month's regular and level 2 assignments?
Thx!
How about a theme subject? I am thinking "Wire". That has a pretty broad range
Unashamedly taken from the iconic movie (The sound of Music), what about "My Favourite Things"? Members could take shots of things they are personally passionate about. It could be a hobby, sport or pastime, a treasured object, favourite food etc. I would suggest NOT family, pets or photography. I think we may get quite a wide variety of creative shots and we may also get some insight into our fellow members of the forum
Sorry, not feeling those two at all. I went back the last few years of assignments and I see that we've never done "Food" (unless I missed it). What's everyone think of that one?
And then for a level 2 how about we really throw out a challenge and do something like hadouken or levitation. Here are examples of both from Digital Rev:
How to do "Hadouken" Photography - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paqe3pQIiv0) (Hadouken)
How to do Levitation Photography - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaSH0d60Zso) (Levitation)
We did food earlier this year (February). I dont mind if my other idea is rejected, just throwing it out there.
As you dont like the other idea what about shooting into the light (including backlighting).
I had seen those levitation videos before and wondered about giving them a go, so the leviation idea works for me
I'd rather not give input this month (unless I have to break a tie or something )and just choose whatever the majority suggests.
Right now there's no consensus so we could use a few more posts.
(In my experience though, the more precise the topic the fewer posts we get)
Thx!
I'm liking Runmonty's "My favorite things", but with a slight change. Instead of shooting your favorite things, how about shooting something mentioned in the song? That has everything from an angry dog, bees, depression (or Blues). I could post the lyrics to the song here.
Here are the lyrics.
My Favorite Things Lyrics
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
I am really digging Iggy's level 2 suggestion of levitation and Hadouken
Just my votes, we need others to vote in too. I'm happy to be voted out if that's the case. And you were quite right, Runmonty, we did food in February in the level 2 assignment. Inquiring minds had to know so I went back and created a Google spreadsheet. If I set the security right, anyone should be able to view the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqNsgssWfF8OdFF4elBfdUNFb2VDSHBRdl9uY191Z EE&usp=sharing
Marko, I understand where you are coming from. I want everyone to participate but after 4 years I find it hard to come up with something new :)
Another idea (I think I've recommended before) is recreating (or re-interprutation) of a famous photograph. I tried one some time ago with my youngest daughter. We tried to recreate "Breakfast at Tiffany's" photo of Aubry Hepburn.
so far just 3 members posted with no clear winning theme....
Long weekend and sunny skies means no one is on the forum ;)
I'm cool with recreating a famous shot. That sounds interesting.
still looking for a few more input here...thx!
I did like the levitation/hadouken idea once I watched those crazy videos. I'm on a trip right now in Florida and just saw a wonderful sunset. While at the Houston airport I tried to suggest themes of flight and summer but my message didn't make it onto the board for some reason. Such is life travelling in the summer using airport wifi.
There does seem to be some interest in Levitation/ Hadouken.
I am good with "flight" as well. Lots of opportunity for varied interpretation there.
"Summer" is the wrong time for me, but don't let that stop everyone else. Besides our winters are probably like your summers anyway :), so I am sure I could come up with something.
My personal feeling is that the "Levitation/ Hadouken" and "Recreating a famous photo" could be tough to have both in the same month. I think both are level 2 type assignments. Perhaps that idea be carried over until next month's level 2???
Anyone else??

I agree. For level one, what about the opposite of the 'Pet's perspective - low angle shots' from a few months ago and do a high perspective shots assignment?
I agree with RM that these 3 suggestions are 'level 2'

My favourite things has some support so let's go with that for the regular assignment.
So let's choose hadouken (basically pantomiming an action shot) for level 2 this month.
Thx!
