Duplicating takes a bit of patience to get copied the first time, after that it's just duplicating the layer. There are a couple of ways to do that. Masking etc. I favour the poly lasso tool in PS.

TT, I love your version of this. Its cool that you took a picture and turned it into something that does not resemble a picture at all but more of a sketch. Nice job.

yes, MA i do have time since i retired from advertising photography. after selling all my equipments, sinars, hasselblads, nikons, balcars, foba stands and 3 4x5 color enlargers, laboratory equipment, about 12 years ago, i completely stopped shooting. up to now i haven't been shooting tho i just bought my 1st dslr, a 400d with 3lenses.
this was before digital and computers so i had to do all the effects that i'm doing now in the darkroom with 8x10 ektachrome duplicating film and lith masks. it was harder to make effects those times so i find photoshop like child's play because i am not in the darkroom with chemicals.
digital is sooo convenient and fun, but i think my long experience in shooting and darkroom work helps me to understand photoshop better. i started photoshop with photoshop 3.
i'm intending to put up a small darkroom in our house but purely for b&w. i miss films. i still have 6x7 mamiya with 4 lenses.
it's like waiting outside the delivery room while prosessing the film. hehe
i also have time to make photographic images on wood using about a hundred strps of individually carved wood and assembling them on marine plywood to produce photographic images.
